The Office of Personnel Management announced Dec. 21 that Mark Robbins will be taking up the position of general counsel at OPM.

Robbins currently serves at the last remaining member of the Merit Systems Protection Board, though his term expires March 1, 2019, and cannot be renewed. The Senate has failed to pass appointed replacements for any of the three positions on the board.

According to an OPM news release, Robbins will be serving as MSPB chair and OPM general counsel concurrently while his term on the board expires.

“I’m very excited that Mark is returning to OPM,” said Acting Director Margaret Weichert. “Mark brings extensive professional experience that will help OPM deliver mission outcomes that will help advance the President’s Management Agenda.”

Robbins previously served as OPM general counsel from 2001 to 2006, as well as working as general counsel for the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and senior rule of law adviser for the Department of State.
