The General Services Administration announced Aug. 28 that the acting General Counsel Jack St. John will formally take over the role of overseeing the agency’s more than 130 attorneys nationwide and of serving as the chief legal adviser to the administrator.

"Jack has done an excellent job as our acting general counsel and he will continue to bring great value to our GSA leadership team,” said GSA Administrator Emily Murphy in an agency news release.

"Jack’s legal expertise and management experience will help further GSA’s role as a strategic leader for the federal government.”

St. John was named acting general counsel in October 2017, after the death of the previous general counsel, Richard Beckler, in September. Prior to that, he worked as GSA’s chief of staff and senior White House adviser.

“St. John will also serve as the Designated Agency Ethics Official, advise in the formulation and promulgation of GSA policies and regulations, oversee the agency’s litigation, and provide overall direction to the Office of General Counsel,” the news release said.
