The General Services Administration awarded 33 new Building Maintenance and Operations contracts with $15 billion ceilings Thursday.
The contracts, which have a five-year base with an option for another five years, will provide various building maintenance services for facilities in the agency's designated Zone 1 region.
"From HVAC maintenance to plumbing services, pest control, elevator inspection and everything in between, these new BMO awards provide federal agencies with a fast, flexible and reliable way to obtain best value solutions for their complex Building Maintenance and Operations Services requirements, while at the same time cutting their administrative costs and reducing the need for additional duplicative contracts," said Mary Ruwwe, GSA's FAS Heartland Region commissioner and Facilities and Construction category manager.
The region — which includes Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. — will receive more streamlined services under the GSA's strategic sourcing solution, which provided for the new contracts.
GSA officials noted that 24 of the contracts were geared for small businesses and included the agency's two multiple-award, indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract vehicles.
The strategic sourcing solution packages services into specific contract vehicles in an effort to reduce save on cost and reduce redundancies.
"They will help customer agencies by allowing for comparison shopping and minimize pricing variances," Ruwwe said. "And standardized vendor reporting will allow for better spend-tracking, which will let agencies know where efficiencies can be maximized."
GSA officials said they anticipate additional contracts in other zones to be rolled out later this year.
