Department of Veterans Affairs officials have tapped Associate Deputy Assistant Secretary for Security Operations Daniel Galik to take over as acting chief information security officer for the agency when current CISO Stan Lowe retires from government next week.

As acting deputy assistant secretary and CISO, Galik will be responsible for ensuring veteran information is safe across VA's networks, which includes several offices and thousands of hospitals across the country.

"This will include enacting strong policies, processes and procedures that protect the information and systems that affect every veteran, their families and beneficiaries and VA employees," said Mark Farrell, spokesman for VA CIO LaVerne Council.

Galik previously held similar CISO positions at both Health and Human Services and the IRS and is a veteran himself, having served in the Navy.
