Intelligence Community CIO Al Tarasiuk officially retired Tuesday after almost four years in the job and 28 years in government.

Tarasiuk served as an electrical engineer and later CIO at the CIA before being asked to take the reins as the lead technologist for the entire Intelligence Community in 2011.

He was the lead architect of the Intelligence Community Information Technology Enterprise (ICITE) efforts, which fundamentally changed the way intelligence agencies used and procured technology at the department level.

"Al uniquely provided the balanced leadership needed to lead the community's CIOs through this important transformational effort," Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Tuesday. "On behalf of the entire Intelligence Community, I thank Al for his years of exceptional service and wish him and his family well in his retirement and future endeavors."

Tarasiuk's last day was April 28.
