The Office of Personnel Management said it would shutter 21 occupational series across the federal workforce on March 8, citing the low number of federal employees maintaining those roles.

OPM began reviewing the job titles — which consist of 25 or fewer federal employees in its Enterprise Human Resources Integration Data Warehouse — in November 2016 when it proposed closing down 37 occupational series.

Following agency comments, OPM pared the list down to 10 General Service and 11 Wage Grade occupations, which include:

Series 0357 Coding

Series 0593 Insurance Accounts

Series 0625 Autopsy Assistant

Series 0637 Manual Arts Therapist

Series 0639 Educational Therapist

Series 0650 Medical Technical Assistant Series

Series 1021 Office Drafting

Series 1386 Photographic Technology

Series 1540 Cryptography

Series 2135 Transportation Loss and Damage Claims Examining

The occupational series will be reclassified to other categories before the old titles are dropped from federal pay tables on March 1, 2018.

OPM last eliminated occupational series categories in 2010, when it removed 34 positions from federal pay tables. See the rest of the list here.
